Executive Profiles
 
F. Kemper Freeman Jr.
Chairman and CEO

As principal owner and hands-on leader of the development team, Mr. Freeman has earned a national reputation as a civic leader and businessman with integrity and a win-win philosophy. He has been engaged in real estate development in Bellevue since the 1960s. Mr. Freeman is also active in political affairs and issues on a local, regional, and national level. He was elected to three terms in the state legislature and also served as chairman of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) in 1994–95.

Jim Melby
President

Mr. Melby joined the company in 1990. Prior to his promotion to president, he served as chief financial officer for the company. He has worked on all of the company’s financing, land deals, office leasing, major retail tenant negotiations, and hotel asset management issues as well as a broad range of operational issues. Prior to joining Kemper Development Corporation, Mr. Melby was a senior manager with the CPA firm of Deloitte & Touche.

Dan Meyers
Sr. Vice President Design and Construction

Mr. Meyers has been with the company since 1997. His previous employer, Sclater Partners, has been the architectural firm for the company for many years. He worked as lead architect on several different KDC projects prior to coming in-house with the organization.

Fritz Walter
Director of Construction

Since joining the company in 2003, Mr. Walter has been responsible for oversight of all major construction on the Lincoln Square site. Prior to joining KDC, Mr. Walter worked for Castle & Cooke in Hawaii. He oversaw all construction on the island of Lanai, 98 percent of which is owned by Castle & Cooke. He was responsible for more than $800 million in projects there including two five-star resorts, several high-end residential developments, and substantial infrastructure projects on the island.

Kevin Schreck
Vice President Leasing and Development

Mr. Schreck has been with the company since 1998 after working in the sales divisions of other companies for a number of years. As leader of our leasing efforts, Mr. Schreck has been instrumental in identifying and procuring the best tenants in the market. He is also responsible for all Bellevue Square development projects.

Howard McQuaid
Vice President Leasing and Development

Mr. McQuaid has been with the company since 1991. After joining the company as controller, Mr. McQuaid has been leasing retail and office space for the company and has worked on several of KDC’s largest transactions in recent years.

Jana Koeberle
Vice President of Leasing, Lincoln Square

Ms. Koeberle first joined our company in 1997 in our marketing department. After a short stint with a dot-com enterprise, she rejoined KDC in our leasing department in 2001. She has demonstrated great skill in identifying retail prospects and developing them into retail tenants.

Larry Ice
Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Ice joined the company in 2002. Prior to coming on board with KDC, he was CFO of Fisher Properties for 14 years. He also served as chief information officer for the parent firm, Fisher Company, which had extensive holdings in broadcasting and industrial businesses in addition to their real estate portfolio. Mr. Ice worked as a CPA with public accounting firms prior to his time at Fisher.

Paul Cronkite
Assistant Vice President Finance

Mr. Cronkite, a CPA, joined the company in 1998 as controller and quickly demonstrated a solid understanding of the company’s businesses. This led to a new role doing much of KDC’s computer modeling and forecasting. He has been deeply involved with the rest of the project team on analysis and forecasts for Lincoln Square.

Jennifer Leavitt
Vice President of Marketing

Ms Leavitt joined our company in 1985 as the assistant marketing director. Ms. Leavitt received her CMD from the ICSC for marketing and soon after that became the Director of Marketing. Ms. Leavitt has grown her scope of responsibilities as the company has expanded and now oversees marketing, public relations, special events, media buying and creative, web development and company communications.

Glen Bachman
Vice President of Retail Operations

Mr. Bachman has an extensive retail background first in sales and marketing, then operations. Mr. Bachman joined the company in 1989 after many years with Frederick & Nelson. Mr. Bachman manages the operations for both Lincoln Square and Bellevue Square and serves on many industry related committees including the Sustainable Issuses Committee for the International Council of Shopping Centers. Mr. Bachman has his SCSM designation from the ICSC, and RPA from BOMA and a CPM from IREM.

Clark Rice
Vice President of Security

Mr. Rice joined the company has been a team member with Mr. Freeman for over 25 years.  Mr. Rice brought his considerable expertise as a past military reserves as well as time as an officer with the Bellevue Police department.  Mr. Rice oversees all security and traffic management issues. 

Robert Dallain
Sr.Vice President and General Manager-Bellevue Square

Vice President and General Manager – Bellevue Square and Asset Manager for hotels and restaurants.  Mr. Dallain first worked with our team in 1989 when he opened and managed the Hyatt Regency Bellevue in our first mixed-use project at Bellevue Place.  Mr. Dallain then moved on to VP of Food and Beverage for  the entire Hyatt corporate chain for 5 years.  Mr. Dallain recently joined our company after managing  and redeveloping the 5-star Hyatt Resort at Beaver Creek.  Mr. Dallain now brings his experience in exceptional guest experiences to KDC as well as his breadth of knowledge and expertise of the luxury hotel, restaurant and guest relations industry.

Andy Thompson
Director of Operations

Doug Polonis
Controller

After graduating from Seattle University with a degree in Accounting and obtaining his CPA, Mr. Polonis spent over six years in public accounting with Arthur Young & Company (now Ernst & Young) and Voldal Wartelle & Company. Following his public accounting career, he joined United Way of King County where he spent approximately seven years as Assistant Controller and Controller.  After United Way he spent almost two years with a publicly traded high-tech consulting company as Assistant Controller and Controller.  In 2001, he moved to Trammell Crow Company (TCC) as Vice-President, Senior Controller in their Bellevue Client Reporting Center.  In 2006 after TCC closed its Bellevue Client Reporting Center, he moved to Kemper Development Company.
